The Problem with Time…and Updates

melting clockWhen you’re an author, you get used to looking at time a little differently than everyone else. When I’m writing a conversation between characters, only a few minutes may pass in the scene while a half hour passes in real time. And since I’ve been writing a ton of words lately, I seem to spend an increasing amount of time in character time instead of real time.

Basically, I’m telling you that the more I write, the less I notice the passage of time in the real world. I’ve got all sorts of stuff going on and yet I haven’t told y’all about any of it in over a month. So, let’s get to the fun updates, shall we?

On the Publishing Front

Since the release of OF WISHES AND RAINBOWS there hasn’t been anything else, so I’m not that behind in making sure you know what’s coming out when. That said, I’ve got a dark and edgy novella coming out in October that I think you might like. Well, I’m hoping so anyway because I had a blast writing it.

TRANSFERENCE is a story about characters on the run and on the edge of their sanity. It’s a story of addiction, lust and redemption. It’s a story about what happens when you redirect your desires to the worst possible person at the worst possible time.

It’s a story about how getting what you wanted isn’t always what you really want.

The official release date is October 13, but you can learn more about it and reserve your copy from Amazon at the link below. If you take advantage of the pre-release special, you’ll even save a buck and get it for 99¢.

On the Writing Front

Now that I’m finally over the plague that’s, well, plagued me for most of this year, I’m hitting the keyboard in a big way and working on some fun projects. Even though they won’t be available until 2015, I’d love to go ahead and give you a little bit of scoopage on them.

Okay, I actually outed some of the surprises a few weeks ago on the site when I posted titles and genres of my WIPs. If you haven’t seen it yet, be sure to come to the website and check out the sidebar since you’ll see realtime updates on where I am with each story. For those of you that have already seen some of these titles, it’s time to give you a little bit of context.

The Ritual Awakening Trilogy

While I’m no stranger to the world of the paranormal, this will be my first full-length paranormal or urban fantasy novel. RITUAL OBSESSION is the first book in the trilogy and we get to know a high school girl named Anya Lucasta who lives in a small Texas town. Like many small Texas towns, the good people of Ritual turn out for all the high school football games even though the team is on a multi-year losing streak. Life is utterly normal in this painfully normal town.

Except it isn’t.

Anya’s goal may be no loftier than to pass her classes and graduate so she can escape the scorn of her classmates, but supernatural forces, ancient cults and an affair with a man who’s as dangerous as he is sexy will disrupt her life in unimaginable ways. She’ll learn the world is very different from what she’s been taught to believe.

And believe me when I tell you that this isn’t your typical high school vampire story.

But that’s all I’ll say for now.

The Adventures of Sherlock Shakespeare

This is a novella series that you’ll get multiple installments to next year. Sherlock Shakespeare is a girl like any other, except for having a fictional male detective’s name that makes everyone in her high school think she’s the only one who can help them find their beloved mascot – a trained teacup pig – in time for Homecoming.  Between the strange rules of her college literature professor parents, a brother who talks about The Golden Girls as though the characters are real people and a rich stoner bent on getting her into bed, Sherlock’s hopes for a normal senior year are quickly disappearing.

And just when she thought life couldn’t get any weirder…ghosts.

Look for the first installment of this series, THE CASE OF THE MISSING MASCOT, in early 2015.

The Undercover Series

And for all you fans of the Undercover Series, you’ll be happy to know I haven’t totally crossed over into the world of ghosts and psychics and vampires. (Oh my!) The fifth installment of the series, LOVE ONLY SLEEPS, is still on the schedule for a 2015 release.

But I won’t say more. Don’t want to get too spoilerish for anyone who might not be caught up in the series. I’d hate to be the one to kill all that fun, gut-wrenching suspense for anyone.

Of course, these aren’t the only three stories/series I’ve got up my sleeve. If fiction is your favorite distraction, I do believe I’ve got you covered.

So, talk to me, y’all. I promise not to bite…or send weird psychic waves through your computer to make your cat bite you. In fact, I love Love LOVE hearing from people. What are you most looking forward to reading next year? Which series is catching your eye?

Have you been caught in any weird time loops lately?

Seriously, if you talk to me on this blog or any of the social media sites I’m active on, I will talk to you. I have this condition where I don’t know how not to chat. ;)

  1. Yeah! Exciting stuff and so so so inspiring. Here’s to your continued success and writing endeavors.

Also, I’d love to chat with you. :P Not that I already don’t. You’re probably sick of me. *giggle*

    • I’m not sick of you, goofy. I like our chats.

  2. Busy busy and that is always a good thing. I am with you when it comes to time and how it seems to pass by without much notice.

Had to say, I dig the cover for Transference.

    • I’m actually ahead of the game right now. I just finished three scenes that span 3.5 days in one sitting. I’m not sure, but I might be made of magic right now.

It is a really cool cover, isn’t it? I love Farah’s work.
